Fraher Takes 800-meter Title in Pullman
Feb. 3, 2018
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Gonzaga's Claren Fraher placed first in the women's 800 meters at the Cougar Indoor Saturday.
Fraher's time of 2:27.28 was nearly a second ahead of the field. The Zags finished with five runners in the top-12. Sarah Hawley (2:29.98) and Jenny Albrecht (2:30.17) were sixth and seventh. Albrecht won the first heat.
"Claren and Jenny ran nearly identical races tactically," GU women's Head Coach Patty Ley said. "Both went straight to the front and led every step to the finish."
Claire Gillett was fourth in her heat of the 600 meters and finished ninth overall. She crossed the line at 1:42.19.
"I have been so impressed this indoor season by Claire," Ley said. "She just fought every step and took a big chance by getting out aggressively."
"Lots of tired legs and now on to relaxing week of rest and transition to outdoor training," Ley said.
