Bulldogs Open Track Season At Dusty Lane

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's track and field team got its first outing of the season Saturday at the Dusty Lane Open hosted by the Community Colleges of Spokane. Freshman Laura Volcheff had the best finish of the day for the Bulldogs, taking third in the women's 5000 meters in 19:24.0. Teammates Amanda Gillman (22:27.14) and Ashlee Commeree (22:40.40) finished ninth and 10th, respectively. Newcomer Clare Obradovich, a freshman from Tigard, Ore., finished fifth in the women's 200 meters in 26.99 and sixth in the 800 meters in 2:31.05. On the men's side, the Bulldogs had three runners in the top 10 in the 5000 meters paced by Tony KArafiat in fifth in 15:52.40. Matt Bejar was seventh in 15:56.36 and Ian Berge 10th in 16:27.39. Gonzaga's Noah Stout was seventh in the 800 meters in 2:05.77. Gonzaga will be idle until April 5 when the Bulldogs travel to Missoula, Mont., for the Al Manuel Invitational.
