Zag Track Programs Named All-Academic Teams

NEW ORLEANS – The Gonzaga women’s and men’s track and field teams received academic team recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
A total of 360 women's team earned All-Academic Team honors. The GU women had the 10th best team GPA of those 218 programs at 3.59. The Bulldog men boasted a 3.27 GPA, which ranked 41st out of 142 teams. Teams must carry a 3.00 cumulative GPA to make the list.
The highest cumulative GPA of any women’s team belonged to the University of San Francisco for the second consecutive year. The Dons maintained a 3.80 GPA under head coach Helen Lehman-Winters.
When it comes to men’s teams, the University of New Mexico held down the top spot with a cumulative GPA of 3.53. George Washington University wasn’t too far behind at 3.52.
As far as the Scholar Teams of the Year are concerned, the Texas A&M men and the Georgia women swept honors after standing out in the classroom and in competition.
In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
