Mildes Earns USTFCCCA Academic Accolade

NEW ORLEANS -- Gonzaga women's track's Jessica Mildes was named an All-Academic individual by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Friday.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Mildes was one of just 26 women that earned a cumulative GPA of 4.0 or better.

Mildes has excelled in the classroom. She was tabbed Academic All-American First Team this year and Third Team last year, and has been named Academic All-Conference and Academic All-District twice. She boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. She graduated with a major in accounting, and is working on her Master of Taxation.

Mildes finished an incredible career at Gonzaga in her second appearance at the NCAA West Preliminaries. She placed 31st in the women's 10,000-meter semifinal at the NCAA West Preliminaries. The redshirt senior crossed the line at 36:14.82 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

Mildes entered this year's West Prelims with the 30th-fastest time in the region at 34:13.96. She ran that qualifying time at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 13. Her time was seeded 27th in the 48-runner field. In the 2015 regionals, Mildes got tripped up early in the 10,000-meter race and placed 39th at 36:54.57. She owns the program 10,000-meter record, 33:40.82, from the 2015 Stanford Invitational. The Chattaroy, Wash. native, also holds the GU 5,000-meter record, 16:16.88, ran at the 2015 Oregon Relays. She is third on the program's indoor 5,000-meter list (17:00.66) and sixth on the 3,000-meter list (9:55.46).

In cross country, Mildes is second on the program's all-time list over a 6,000-meter course at 20:25.3 and third over a 5,000-meter course at 16:57. She helped guide the Zags to their first-ever national championship berth in 2015, after an All-Conference finish at the West Coast Conference Championships. She was selected All-Region, placing 21st at the NCAA West Regionals.
