MOSCOW, Idaho - Gonzaga University's men's and women's cross country teams had mixed success at the Vandal Cross Country Jamboree at the University of Idaho Golf Course on Friday.
The meet, scored as dual meets, saw the Bulldog women defeat Washington State University 24-33 and Eastern Washington University 24-34, while falling to the host Vandals 15-48. The Gonzaga men defeated Idaho 21-39, EWU 25-31 and lost to WSU 25-32.
In other results, the Idaho women swept WSU 15-48 and EWU 15-50, while WSU's women defeated EWU 25-30. On the men's side, WSU downed Idaho 18-37 and EWU 24-33, while EWU topped Idaho 24-35.
Gonzaga's men were paced by Joe Manning, who finished seventh in 20:38.10 over the 4-mile course. Jeff Johnson was 16th in 21:04.10. Alex Grant, running unattached, captured the individual title in 20:20.8.
Jill Semenza was the first Gonzaga woman across the line, finishing 11th in 15:09.0 over the 4K layout. Jamie Schiel was 15th in 15:26.20 for the Bulldogs. Letiwe Marakurwa of the host Vandals took the individual crown in a course record 14:15.80 in winning the meet for the Jamboree for the third straight year. Idaho had five runners in the top eight, the other three were running unattached.
