SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's men's and women's cross country teams blitzed the Community College of Spokane course on Saturday to dominate the Sasquatch Invitational.

Jill Semenza, Jamie Schiel, Emily Buck and Nellie Ballou paced a near sweep for the Bulldogs in the 5K women's meet and had six runners in the top eight. The Bulldogs won the meet 16-42 over Whitworth College, the only other team represented with a full squad.

On the men's side, Joe Miller and Ryan Anderson took second and third, respectively, behind CCS's Mark Currell as the Bulldogs placed five runners in the top 10 for 24 points to easily out-distance Whitworth (42) and CCS (63).

"Both teams did an excellent job," Gonzaga 10th-year head coach Kevin Swaim said. "Both teams had a plan and went out and executed it well. I thought we got strong performances from the veterans and some strong races from some newcomers."

The veteran women's squad saw Semenza cross the line in 19:08.70, Schiel come across in 19:28.20 and Buck (19:57.30) and Ballou (19:57.90) were third and fourth, respectively, as the Bulldogs had four runners beat the 20:00.00 barrier. Kristi Dickey of Whitworth broke up the Gonzaga sweep in fifth in 20:12.00. Freshman Kara Rasmussen was sixth in 20:13.00 and Molly Follen was eighth in 20:13.50 for the Bulldogs.

Other top freshmen for the Bulldog women were Lindsay Hallvik, 21st in 21:35.40, and Naomi Calkins, 25th in 21:45.20.

The senior-laden men's squad saw Miller and Anderson cross the line in 20:34 and 20:38, respectively, over the 6400M course. Eric Berge was seventh in 21:26 and Dan Futrell eighth in 21:29. Freshman Baraka Poulin completed the top five for the Bulldogs in 10th place in 21:33.

The Bulldogs will compete at the National Catholic Invitational on Friday in South Bend, Ind.
