Gonzaga Runners Compete At Willamette Invitational

SALEM, OR - Colby Litzenberger finished 74th for the men and Emily Buck 96th for the women as the top Gonzaga University finishers at the 31st annual Charles Bowles Invitational Cross Country Meet hosted by Willamette University on Saturday. Litzenberger finished the 8K course in 26:08.40 while Buck finished in 19:22.80 over the 5K Bush Park layout. The Bulldog women finished 14th with 416 points. The Bulldog men did not enter a full team as head coach Kevin Swaim rested some of his better runners on both teams, most notably Jill Semenza and Joe Miller. There were 77 teams and more than 1,300 runners competing in six races in the university, college and open divisions. In the Division I race, the University of Washington's Mark Mandi finished first in 23:44.70, but the University of Portland had five of the top 12 finishers to take the team title. UW was second, followed by the Air Force Academy, the University of Oregon and the University of California. Dee Olsen from the University of Idaho won the women's university division in a time of 17:01.50. Washington won the team title, followed by Oregon, the University of Iowa, California and San Diego State University.
