CHENEY, Wash. - Gonzaga University's Joe Miller finished fourth to lead the men and Kara Rasmussen finished ninth to pace the women at the Eastern Washington University Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.

Miller, in a pack of about eight runners halfway through the race, finished fourth in 25:26.2. Geoff Kerr of the University of Calgary won the race in 24:53.2 over the 8K course.

Rasmussen passed four runners in the final mile and finished ninth in 19:24.4 over the 5K course. Mandy Macalister, running unattached, broke from the field early and easily won in 18:34.5.

On the men's side, Colby Litzenberger finished 10th for Gonzaga in 26:20.4, Baraka Poulin was 13th in 26:46.0 and Eric Mendoza was 17th in 27:03.6

The University of Calgary "B" team won the men's meet with 49 points, the Bulldogs second with 63.

Nellie Ballou finished 15th in 19:59.1 and Emmylyn Bentley was 19th in 20:07.5 as the Bulldog women finished third with 76 points. Calgary won the women's race with 22 points as the Dinos had five runners in the top eight.

The race was the final tune-up for the Bulldogs prior to the West Coast Conference Championship OCt. 28 at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Belmont, Calif.

Overall I thought this was a good race for us," Gonzaga head coach Kevin Swaim said. "I think there are a couple of areas we can continue to improve on prior to the conference championship, but we have two weeks to do so. I think today was a good tune-up."
