Two Bulldogs Run In NCAA Regional
Nov. 12, 2005
STANFORD, Calif. - Gonzaga University junior Joe Miller finished 39th on the men's side and Bulldog senior Jill Semenza was 68th on the women's side at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday. Miller, sixth at this year's West Coast Conference Championship, finished the 10K course in 31:18.0. He was 22 places and 56 seconds better than last year when he was 61st in 32:14. Semenza, fourth at this year's WCC Championship, finished the 6K course in 22:07.3. Injured for the middle part of this season, Semenza never rounded into the shape that saw her finish 35th in 21:38 at the West Regional a year ago. Stanford University sophomore Arianna Lambie won the women's race on the Stanford University Golf Course in a time of 19:29.3, more than 19 seconds better than runner-up Amy Hastings of Arizona State University. Lambie's victory helped the second-ranked Stanford women's team to its seventh straight regional crown and a berth at the NCAA Championships on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Cardinal tallied 24 points compared to 48 points for runner-up Arizona State. The Arizona men's team, ranked ninth in the nation, broke Stanford's 10-year hold on the NCAA West Regional title with a victory over the fourth-ranked Cardinal on Saturday. Robert Cheseret led four Arizona runners in the Top 10 with his victory in 30:03.3. Arizona tallied 33 points compared to 80 for runner-up Stanford.
