Men's Cross Country Finishes 17th At NCAA West Regional

FRESNO, Calif. - Three underclassmen finished among the top five runners for Gonzaga University as the Bulldog men placed 17th at the NCAA West Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Sophomore Joe Miller was the top finisher crossing the line at 32:14 to finish 61st overall. Junior Jill Semenza finished 35th in the women's race running as an independent for GU. Stanford University Ryan Hall won the individual men's championship with a time of 30:07 on the 10 kilometer course as the Cardinal men won the team championship with 49 points. Arizona State University was second with 68 points followed by Cal Poly, UCLA and the University of Portland. Gonzaga was 17th in the 21 team field with 482 points. Following Miller as finishers for the Bulldogs were senior Ryan Anderson at 87th, sophomore Jeff Johnson at 100th, freshman Baraka Poulin at 116th and senior Dan Futrell at 118th. Senior Eric Berge was 129th and junior Eric Mendoza 134th to round out the Bulldogs non-counters. On the women's side Alicia Craig of Stanford won individual honors with a time of 20:03 on the 6 kilometer course. Stanford also won the women's team title with 29 points followed by Arizona State, UC Santa Barbara, University of Idaho and University of Washington. Semenza ran a time of 21:38 as the lone Gonzaga female runner. This marks the second consecutive year that the Gonzaga men's team has advanced to the NCAA West Regional.
