Sept. 2, 2005

MOSCOW, Idaho - Joe Miller finished second for the Gonzaga University men and Jill Semenza was the top Bulldog women in fifth at the Vandal Twilight Jamboree cross country opener held Friday at the University of Idaho Golf Course.

Washington State University's Haley Paul won the women's 4K race and junior Andrew Jones of WSU, running unattached, won the men's 4-mile race. Paul led from wire-to-wire in taking the women's title, with Semenza among the lead pack all of the way. Dale Engler of Idaho and Miller battled stride-for-stride through the first half of the men's race, then it was Miller and Jones jockeying for the lead until Jones opened the gap over the last 800 meters.

In the multiple duel-scored meet, the Vandal men defeated Gonzaga 26-31 while WSU's women defeated the Bulldogs 16-46. The UI women did not enter a complete squad.

Complete team scoring and individual results were unavailable from Idaho officials as of late Friday night.

Gonzaga will compete in the Sundodger Invitational on Sept. 17 at Lincoln Park in Seattle in a meet hosted by the University of Washington.
