Baseball Mid-Summer Update

20 Zags are competing in summer leagues across the nation

2015: Went 1-1 as a redshirt junior with a 5.29 ERA in six appearances, two starts…threw 17.0 innings, allowing 10 earned runs and striking out six…went 6.2 innings in season debut, a start versus Utah Valley Feb. 15, allowing four unearned runs…threw 2.0 innings of scoreless relief March 20, striking out two batters and picking up the win…struck out two batters in 5.2 innings April 2 versus #25 San Diego...pitched shutout inning May 9 versus Pacific.

2014: Appeared in 18 games and pitched a total of 16.2 innings…ended the year with a 2-0 record and 4.86 ERA…made two saves: one on Mar. 16 at San Francisco and then again Mar. 22 at Pacific…had multiple strike outs in two games and did not give up any HR on the season…allowed only three hits during the month of April and May.

2013: Redshirt for the 2013 season.

2012: Made 8 relief appearances as a frehsman...went 0-1 with a 1.93 ERA and 1 save...allowed 2 earned runs in 9.1 innings...struck out 4 batters...first save against Santa Clara (4/14/12).

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Bishop Manogue high school in Reno, Nev....earned three varsity letters in baseball under coach Charles Oppio and one letter in football under Paul Mills...selected first team All-State 4A North accolades as a junior and senior...owned a 1.79 earned-run average in 31 innings pitched and in addition striking out 40 batters as a junior...threw both a perfect game and a no-hitter...transitioned to first base and contributed to the Miners offense during senior campaign...compiled a league-leading .511 batting average with 15 doubles, four triples and eight home runs...received All-State 4A Academics and National Honors Society accolades...received the Sr. Carmen Baca Award for the most service hours given (600-plus services hours).

Personal: Comes from a family with history of playing NCAA Division I sports...grandfather, Andrew, lettered in soccer and track and field at the University of San Francisco from 1953-56...aunts, Denise and Michelle, played volleyball at the University of the Pacific and University of Nevada, respectively...Denise also played women's basketball at Pacific.
