Box Score

Davis, Calif. - The Gonzaga University baseball team wrapped up a four-game road trip Monday with an 8-2 loss to UC Davis at Dobbins Stadium in Davis, Calif. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Zags as the Bulldogs were fresh off of a three-game series sweep at Sacramento State University.

Starter AJ Proszek (1-1) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs (15-9) as he allowed seven runs, five earned, on eight hits over 5.2 innings. Andrew Danner and Brandon Harmon each saw time out of the pen for Gonzaga. UC Davis (13-7) reliever Jeremy McChesney (1-0) earned the victory going 4.0 innings, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out two.

Three Bulldogs earned multiple hits on the afternoon, as Jason Chatwood paced the way with four. The junior went 4-for-5 with a run batted in. Marcus McKimmy and Drew Heid were the only other two Zags to post multiple hits as McKimmy went 3-for-5 and Heid, 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Gonzaga opened scoring in the fourth frame to take a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Heid reached based on a single to left before advancing to second on a single by Grant Kveder. Heid came around to score during the next at-bat as Chatwood singled down the left field line.

UC Davis rallied in the fifth and sixth innings to score seven runs. In the fifth, the Aggies plated four runs using three hits, a walk and a GU throwing error. Three runs were scored in the sixth thanks to two singles and a sacrifice by Matt Dempsey.

The Bulldogs posted the only other run of the game in the top of the ninth as McKimmy singled to left to score Heid, who reached on a base hit to right.

Gonzaga poised many opportunities to take the lead in the contest, as the Zags stranded 11 runners on base. The Zags left the bases loaded to end an inning once, while stranding two runners on three occasions.

The Zags will take the field against Tuesday as they travel to No. 28 Washington State University in Pullman, Wash. The 5:30 game will be the first meeting of a four-game series that will be played throughout the remainder of the season.
