SPOKANE, Wash. - Senior center fielder Jeff Culpepper's walk-off RBI single to right field lifted the Gonzaga University baseball team to a 5-4 West Coast Conference win over the University of San Francisco Saturday afternoon at Avista Stadium.

With the win the Bulldogs even the series and move to 19-12 overall and 6-4 in WCC play. The Dons fall to 23-10 overall and 8-3 in WCC play.

After the Dons knotted the score at four runs apiece in the top of the ninth inning, the Bulldogs were forced to put on a rally in the bottom of the ninth inning. Sophomore second baseman Scott Campbell led off with a walk and moved to second on Aaron McGuinness' ground out to the shortstop. That set the stage for Culpepper's heroics as the center fielder rocketed the ball to right field which allowed Campbell to round third and dive head first at the plate just beating out the throw from USF right fielder Stefan Gartrell to lift GU to victory.

The Bulldogs did most of their damage in the first inning as they scored four runs on three hits. The first run of the day for the Zags came when USF starting pitcher Tony Biale committed a balk which scored Campbell from third and moved McGuinness to third. Catcher Kiel Thibault then doubled in McGuinness for the second run of the game. Bobby Carlson then hit a two-run homer over the left field fence to cap the scoring for the inning.

The Dons slowly chipped away at the four-run lead scoring two runs in the second and tying the game in the ninth inning on Cy Donald's RBI single to center field which scored Royce Fukuroko. The Dons could come no closer as Bulldogs defense prevented the Dons from scoring another run.

Right-hander Brandon Harmon (2-0) picked up the win for the Bulldogs allowing one run on two hits in 2.1 innings of work. Patrick McGuigan (2-1) was saddled with the loss for the Dons allowing one run on three hits in three innings of work.
