Gaels Big Third Inning Gives No. 24 Zags Game Two Defeat

SPOKANE, Wash. - The 24th-ranked Gonzaga University baseball team suffered a 12-1 loss to Saint Mary's College in game two of a three-game West Coast Conference series Friday evening.
Tyler Olson (5-3) retired six of the first 7 batters to start the game but the Gaels (16-17, 4-4 WCC) used seven singles, a triple and four Bulldog (22-12-1, 6-2 WCC) errors to bring across 11 runs in the third inning. Aaron Brooks came into the game and got the Bulldogs out of the inning despite allowing a single and an unearned run.
Brooks went on to pitch three shutout innings before handing the ball to Sean Santschi, who allowed one earned in two innings of work. Mark Phillips retired the order in the ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Steven Halcomb doubled in the home half of the third inning to record the Bulldogs only extra-base hit. He scored the Bulldogs lone run on a double play.
Royce Bolinger singled up the middle in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to six games while Cameron Edman and Tyler Chism also registered a single to extending their hitting streaks to five.
Saint Mary's starter Martin Agosta (4-4) pitched the entire game with three strikeouts, two walks and eight hits scattered.
The Bulldogs and Gaels wrap up the series Saturday at 1 p.m. Marco Gonzales will look to win his seventh-straight start.
