Morgan Again Receives National Honors
March 20, 2017
SAN BRUNO, Calif.—For the third consecutive week, junior right-hander Eli Morgan has been named Rawlings/WCC Pitcher of the Week by the West Coast Conference office.
The Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., native also picked up his second consecutive National Player of the Week honor from Collegiate Baseball, being named one of the top 10 performers last week by the publication.
Morgan was nearly perfect March 17, allowing just one hit – that coming with two down in the eighth inning – in a 4-0 win against Pacific to open WCC play. He struck out 13 Tigers and didn’t issue any walks. He needed just 85 pitches to register his second consecutive shutout and the sixth of his career. The righty is now the Division I active leader in the category, and he’s second in Division I with 54 strikeouts in 2017 as well.
Morgan and the rest of the Gonzaga baseball team hosts Washington for two mid-week games before welcoming San Francisco over the weekend. The intrastate series against the Huskies will begin Tuesday, March 21, at 6:00 p.m. at Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust Field.
