SPOKANE, Wash. - Brandon Harmon, a junior pitcher for the Gonzaga University baseball team, has been named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday.

Harmon (4-4) led the Bulldogs to a 2-1 series win over then-No. 20 University of San Diego last weekend. The junior solidified the series victory Sunday, earning his fourth win of the season as the Zags defeated the Toreros 6-1. Harmon, who held USD to just two hits over the opening eight frames, allowed one run on four hits while striking out five during his 9.0 innings of work. The complete game marked the second of his career, after throwing a complete game shutout on March 25 against Utah Valley State College.

Harmon also earned his first save of the season Friday in the San Diego series opener. The save was his first of the season and the ninth of his career. With one more save, the junior will move into a three-way tie for third place on the Gonzaga all-time career save list.

The honor is the first of his career and the Bulldog WCC accolade this season. Last week, freshman Jeremy Stumetz was named Pitcher of the Week, while third baseman Darin Holcomb earned Co-Player of the Week recognition. Clayton Mortensen was named WCC Pitcher of the Week on February 12.

The Bulldogs resume play Thursday, when they continue WCC action with a three-game series at the University of Portland. Game time Thursday is set for 3 p.m.
