Spokane, Wash. - Gonzaga University freshman pitcher Cody Martin has been named the West Coast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday. Martin shares the honor with AJ Griffin of the University of San Diego.

Martin earned the honor as the rookie posted two saves last week for Gonzaga (18-16, 2-6 WCC). The native of Dos Palos, Calif. allowed no runs on two hits with four strikeouts in 3.1 frames. His save Saturday against Santa Clara University was his seventh of the season, tying the single season saves record that was set 26 years ago by Randy Bostic.

For the season, Martin paces the Zags' bullpen with an impressive 1.98 earned run average. In 27.1 innings pitched, he has earned a 1-0 record, allowing eight runs, six earned, on 21 hits while recording 31 strikeouts.

Martin shares the weekly honor with Griffin, who also posted a pair of saves of the week. Griffin earned his saves while allowing no runs on four hits with five strikeouts during 4.0 innings.

The honor is the first of Martin's career and the third time this season a Bulldog has been awarded a weekly league accolade. Grant Kveder and Marcus McKimmy were named the WCC Players of the Week for the weeks of March 17 and 24 respectively. McKimmy was also named the conference Player of the Month for the month of March.

Gonzaga continues a nine-game home stand Monday as they welcome the University of Washington to Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field for a two-game series.
