Spokane, Wash. - Drew Heid, an outfielder for Gonzaga University, has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday. The honor is the fifth weekly accolade for a Bulldog this season, including the third in as many weeks.

Heid earned the accolade after leading the Zags (25-18, 7-7 WCC) last week with a .667 average. The sophomore went 10-for-15 in four games, with five doubles and a home run. The native of Goldendale, Wash. also drove in five runs, while scoring six.

Last weekend, in a three-game West Coast Conference series with Saint Mary's College, Heid posted two four-hit games. In the series opener, he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI and a run scored. His three doubles tied a school record for doubles in a game. Sunday, in the series finale, Heid went 4-for-6 with two doubles and two runs scored.

For the season, the transfer is hitting at a .353 clip, including batting a team-leading .449 in league play.

The honor is the first of Heid's career and the fifth weekly accolade for a Bulldog this season. This season, Grant Kveder (March 17), Marcus McKimmy (March 24) and Ryan Wiegand (April 21) have all been named WCC Players of the Week, while Cody Martin was named the WCC Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 14. McKimmy was also named the conference Player of the Month for the month of March.

Gonzaga will take the field Tuesday as they host two-time defending national champion Oregon State University in a midweek series at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field. First pitch Tuesday will be at 6 p.m. before the series finale Wednesday at 1 p.m.
