After Claiming WCC Title, Zags Earn #19 National Ranking

SPOKANE, Wash. – After claiming the West Coast Conference title over the weekend, Gonzaga University moved back into the national rankings for the second time this season, appearing at No. 19 in the latest Baseball America national poll. It is the highest ranking that the Bulldogs have received since the 1981 team reached a No. 9 ranking. Last week the Zags (35-16, 14-7 WCC) beat No. 27 Washington State University 8-7 and then beat Loyola Marymount University in the first two games of the WCC Championship Series over the weekend to clinch the conference title and punch their ticket the NCAA Tournament. It is the second time that Gonzaga has appeared in the top-25 this season, earning a No. 22 ranking by Baseball America on Apr. 13. This week the Bulldogs head to Fullerton, Calif. for the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga was placed in the Fullerton Regional where they will open the four-team double elimination first round of play against Georgia Southern University 3 p.m. Pending Friday’s result, the Zags will face the winner/loser of the University of Utah/Cal State Fullerton matchup 7 p.m. Friday. #Baseball America Poll#
