SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's Matt Fields has been named to the Louisville Slugger TPX All-America third team, announced by Collegiate Baseball Thursday.

Fields, the 2009 West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year and All-WCC selection, becomes the seventh Zag ever to earn All-America honors, becoming the first to do so since Clayton Mortensen earned the same recognition in 2007. Fields finished the regular season second in the WCC in ERA (2.86) and in wins (8) while also leading the Bulldogs in strikeouts (73).

The Lake Stevens, Wash. native has posted an 8-1 overall record including a 5-0 mark in WCC play. He fired complete-game victories in two of his final three starts, earning the win in all three starts, to lead the Zags to their first WCC Regular season and WCC Championship Series titles in school history. He took home two WCC/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week awards and posted wins against #26 Pepperdine University, #21 University of San Diego and twice against WCC Championship Series opponent Loyola Marymount University.

Fields will get the start for the Zags in their NCAA Tournament opening round matchup against Georgia Southern University at the Fullerton Regional in Fullerton, Calif. 3 p.m. Friday.
