Gonzaga Releases 2018 Baseball Schedule
Nov. 1, 2017
SPOKANE, Wash.--Gonzaga baseball, two-time defending West Coast Conference champions, announced its 2018 schedule Wednesday. The slate includes 19 home games, nine games against 2017 conference champions, and seven against NCAA Tournament participants from last season.
"This schedule gives us a great chance to test ourselves early against some national competition and prepare ourselves to compete for another WCC title," said Gonzaga head coach Mark Machtolf.
For the second straight year, the Zags start the season in Surprise, Ariz., at Oregon State's Surprise Tournament Feb. 16-19. There, they'll face the Beavers, New Mexico, and Cal Poly twice. Both OSU and New Mexico claimed regular season conference titles in 2017, and the Beavers advanced deep into the College World Series. The Zags then continue the season-opening road trip with three games at UC Irvine Feb. 23-25.
After Irvine, Gonzaga returns home for a series March 2-4 at Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust Field. Milwaukee comes to Spokane for the home-opening series, the earliest since 2008. This will be the first time the Zags and Panthers meet on the diamond. Gonzaga then returns to the road for three games at C-USA champion Rice March 9-11 and single games at Oregon March 13 and Seattle U March 14.
The Zags begin their WCC regular season title defense March 16-18 with a home series against Pepperdine. The next weekend, they're at BYU, one of the three WCC co-champs, for an early showdown, and the tough conference road trip continues March 29-31 at Saint Mary's. The Zags will also stay in the Bay Area through the Easter holiday for a single game at Stanford April 2.
Immediately after that Stanford game, the Zags will return to the Inland Northwest for the first of three against local rival Washington State in Pullman April 3. WCC play resumes with home games against Portland April 6-8, and the Bulldogs then travel west for two at Washington April 10-11. Gonzaga then continues on to Stockton, Calif., for a weekend at Pacific.
Next up, the Zags host Washington State on April 17, the only home game against the Cougars this season. Afterwards, GU flies to San Francisco for a conference series against the Dons, and they'll follow that up with a trio of home games against co-champ Loyola Marymount April 27-29.
The Bulldogs are back on the road at San Diego May 4-6 before playing six of their final seven regular season contests in Spokane. They're home during graduation weekend with a non-conference series against New Mexico State May 11-13, and they'll make the short drive to Pullman for the season series finale at Washington State May 15. The regular season will end May 18-20 with three games against Santa Clara, again at Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust Field.
Should the Bulldogs finish among the top four of the WCC standings once again, they'll play at the WCC Baseball Championship May 24-26 at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton. The Zags have competed at the conference tournament four times in the five years since the tournament's creation.
Season tickets and family passes will go on sale Monday, December 4, and may be purchased either at http://www.gozags.com/tickets/ or at the Gonzaga ticket office.
