Box Score

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - Josh Heytvelt scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 22 rebounds to lead Gonzaga past Pepperdine 82-57 on Saturday.

Heytvelt also blocked six shots, another personal best, for the Bulldogs (17-7, 7-1). He was the first Gonzaga player to tally more than 20 rebounds since Cory Violette grabbed 20 on Dec. 6, 2001, against Fresno State in The Forum.

Derek Raivio scored 19 points and David Pendergraft chipped in 10 points and five rebounds for Gonzaga, which out rebounded Pepperdine, 49-20.

The Bulldogs, who trailed in the series 26-6 following the 1993 season, have 12 consecutive wins against Pepperdine to take a 32-31 edge in the series. The Bulldogs went on two monstrous runs - an 18-0 surge in the first half and a 27-3 explosion in the second.

Trailing 9-4 less than four minutes into the game, the Bulldogs went on an 18-0 spurt. Heytvelt started it with a pair of free throws, Micah Downs drained a 3-pointer from the left corner and Heytvelt connected on a trey from the top of the circle. Following a Pendergraft rebound basket, Heytvelt hit a 16-footer from the right top of the key and then converted a pair of free throws his next trip down the court. A fast break layin by Pierre Marie Altidor-Cespedes off a pass from Pargo and a pair of Raivio free throws on the one-and-one capped the burst.

Trailing 24-12, Pepperdine mounted a 15-6 run that was started by a pair of Chase Griffin free throws, and then was ignited with three straight treys to close the gap to 30-27 with 4:28 to go in the half, Griffin scoring half of his team-high 22 points during the run. Pepperdine (6-18, 2-6) trailed 36-32 at halftime.

Griffin's two free throws with 12:58 to play brought the Waves to win 51-44, but A Heytvelt old-fashioned 3-point play launched the Bulldogs on a 27-3 run that increased the lead to 78-47 with 2:53 to play and the end was not in doubt.

Gonzaga helped keep the Waves in the game in the first half, 16 turnovers leading to 22 points. For the game the Bulldogs had a season-high 28 points that led to 32 Pepperdine points.

Gonzaga completes its Los Angeles trip Monday with a 9 p.m. Big Monday contest on ESPN2 from Gersten Pavilion on the Loyola Marymount campus.
