No. 5 Gonzaga Wins Ninth Straight

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Adam Morrison scored 24 points to help No. 5 Gonzaga beat Santa Clara 85-71 on Saturday night for its 34th consecutive home win, longest streak in the nation.

Gonzaga (18-3, 8-0 West Coast Conference) has won nine games in a row and beat Santa Clara for the 12th consecutive time. The 34-game home winning streak tied the longest in team history.

Santa Clara (8-12, 1-7 WCC) has lost seven in a row to fall into the WCC basement. The Broncos shot only 43 percent in the game, including 4-of-17 3-pointers.

J.P. Batista added 21 points and seven rebounds for Gonzaga, breaking a string of four straight double-doubles. Sean Mallon added 15 points as the Bulldogs shot 46 percent in the game, including 9-of-21 3-pointers.

Morrison, who leads the nation in scoring with 29 points per game, made seven of 18 field goals.

Mitch Henke led Santa Clara with 17 points, while Travis Niesen added 14.

Gonzaga took the lead early in the first half and never gave up control.

The Zags led 12-8 before 3-pointers by Erroll Knight, Morrison and Derek Raivio gave them a 21-13 lead.

The Zags built a 34-22 lead behind a pair of hook shots by Batista and a steal and dunk by Jeremy Pargo.

Gonzaga led 48-32 at halftime, after shooting 60 percent, including hitting six 3-pointers. Santa Clara made 48 percent, but only 2-of-10 3-pointers.

Morrison's 3-pointer capped a 7-0 Gonzaga run for a 69-45 lead and the Zags coasted as they kept their record unblemished in the 2-year-old McCarthey Athletic Center.
