Gonzaga Holds On To Edge San Francisco 84-82

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Dan Dickau scored a career-high 28 points Friday night as Gonzaga narrowly escaped San Francisco's hot 3-point shooting to win its 11th consecutive game, edging the Dons 84-82 and remain undefeated atop the West Coast Conference standings.
Dickau hit 9-of-13 field goal attempts to lead the Bulldogs (17-5, 9-0). Blake Stepp added 17 points, hitting 8-of-10 free throws. Gonzaga tied the school record for consecutive wins set last season.
Ali Thomas came off the bench to lead the Dons (10-14, 3-6) with 19 points, connecting on 5-of-6 3-point attempts. Shanell Stallworth had 17 points, including 5-of-7 long-range.
The Dons trailed by as many as 22 points before they hit full stride in the second half. USF caught fire from behind the arc midway through the second half, hitting 12-of-16 attempts and 15-of-19 for the game.
Gonzaga didn't make a field goal in the last 9:22 following a Dickau 3-pointer from the top of the key gave the Bulldogs a 67-48 lead. The Bulldogs scored their final 17 points from the free throw line. USF went on a 14-5 run to take a 769-53 Gonzaga lead down to 74-67 with 3:10 remaining when Tayo Akinsete drained a 3-pointer. The Dons made 8 three pointers of their final 11 field goals in the final 7:46.
In the final minute of the game San Francisco made three 3-pointers, but Gonzaga countered, making all six of its free throws to preserve the win.
As time expired, Stallworth hit an off-balance 3-pointer to bring the Dons within two.
Dickau bettered his previous career high of 25 points two week's ago at home against the University of San Diego.
The Bulldogs remain home for a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee against Saint Mary's College. The Gaels were 83-74 losers Friday at the University of Portland.
