Frahm, Gonzaga Shoot Past San Francisco, 70-64

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Richie Frahm scored 22 points as Gonzaga defeated San Francisco 70-64 on Sunday.

Matt Santangelo added 17 points as the Bulldogs (21-8, 11-3 in the WCC) clinched the No. 2 seed in the WCC tournament, which begins Saturday. Axel Dench had 10 points.

Darrell Tucker scored 20 points to lead San Francisco (19-8, 7-7), which will enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed. Kenyon Jones added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Jones, Tucker and Frahm each entered the game with a chance to win the conference scoring title. Frahm and Tucker wound up tied for top honors, each at 16.9. Jones, the WCC rebounding champion, was third at 16.6. Tucker, who has scored 20 or more points in six straight games, becomes the first freshman to win a WCC scoring title.

Defending champion Gonzaga, which reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament last year, finished a game behind Pepperdine.

Santangelo gave the Zags the lead for good at 64-62 at 6:36 when he hit an inside jumper.

San Francisco closed to within two points at 66-64 with 4:46 left on a Jones two-handed slam, but the Dons were then held scoreless the rest of the game.

Gonzaga scored the first six points of the second half to pull in front 43-34, its biggest lead of the game.

LyRyan Russell then hit consecutive 3-pointers as the Dons crept back to within three.

San Francisco eventually tied the game at 60 with 7:32 remaining to play when Tucker sank a pair of free throws.
