SPOKANE, Wash. - Point guard Dan Dickau scored 16 points to lead eight Gonzaga University players in double figures as the current version of the Bulldogs beat the Old Dogs AAU, a compilation of former players, 121-80 in a men's basketball exhibition Saturday afternoon in The Kennel.

The game was the final tune-up for the Bulldogs prior to opening the regular season Friday at nearby rival Eastern Washington University. Gonzaga makes its 2000-01 home debut next Sunday in a 2 p.m. contest against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Dickau, who scored 26 a week ago in the Bulldogs' exhibition against the Yakima Sun Kings of the CBA, scored all 16 points in the opening half as he went 5-for-7 from the field, 4-for-5 from 3-point range and made both free throw attempts. Dickau played just five second-half minutes as coach Mark Few played no starter more than 10 minutes in the second half after building a 59-38 halftime advantage.

The Old Dogs AAU were led by the 19 points of Jason Rubright, a member of the Bulldogs' inaugural NCAA Tournament team in 1995. Rubright went 7-for-16 from the field and 3-for-7 from 3-point range. Felix McGowan scored 18 points off the bench, going 6-for-14 from the field and 6-of-12 from long range.

Gonzaga sprinted to an early 12-2 lead as Dickau hit a pair of 3-pointers in the run and Mark Spink connected on a pair of jumpers, and the Old Dogs cut the lead under double digits just twice more in the contest.

Freshman Blake Stepp scored 14 points and Casey Calvary, Alex Hernandez and Spink all finished with 12 as Gonzaga's starters turned in a balanced scoring effort. Freshman Cory Violette scored 14 points of the bench, and Kyle Bankhead (12) and Jimmy Tricco (10) rounded out the other Bulldogs in double digits.

The Bulldogs held a 62-49 rebounding edge, led by Spink's 10 boards. Gonzaga, 39-of-44 from the free throw line a week ago, hit just 11-of-22 on Saturday.
