Gonzaga 16th In AP, 17th In USA Today/ESPN
Jan 5, 2004 SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University held onto 16th in this week's Associated Press Top 25 men's basketball poll, and jumped a notch to 17th in the USA Today/ESPN balloting. The Bulldogs won twice this past week to run their overall record to 10-2 entering West Coast Conference play Thursday at Pepperdine University and Saturday at Loyola Marymount University. Thursday's game tips off at 5:30 p.m. PST and will be televised on FOX Sports Northwest and FOX West2. There is no television for Saturday's 7 p.m. PST game at LMU. Both games can be heard on News Talk 1510 KGA radio. Gonzaga received 760 points for a slim lead over No. 17 Syracuse University (9-2) which received 745 points in the voting of sportswriters. The 13th through 17th spots remained unchanged in the poll, which again has the University of Connecticut ranked No. 1 with 50 of 72 first place votes. The Bulldogs moved to 17th in the USA Today/ESPN voting of coaches. Gonzaga garnered 276 points to trail the University of Texas by 15 points and lead the University of Wisconsin by 33. UConn also heads the coaches poll with 23 of 33 first place votes.
