MBB's Karnowski Named WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Junior center Przemek Karnowski was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in Gonzaga’s win over Portland, league officials announced today.

Karnowski made the plays Gonzaga needed down the stretch to defeat Portland on the road 87-75. He finished the day with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

In the second half alone, he had 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including two highlight reel plays. First, at the 10:29 mark, the 7-foot-1 center caught an inbounds pass and fired up a 22-footer to make the first three-pointer of his career. Then with just 48 seconds left Karnowski took a feed from Kevin Pangos and put down a two-handed slam with a foul and converted the free throw to push the lead from seven to 10 points.

Karnowski's two assists came on back-to-back possessions where he passed out of a double team to hit Pangos for a pair of three-pointers.

Karnowski is the third Gonzaga player to earn the honor this season. Kyle Wiltjer and Kevin Pangos were each named league player of the week earlier in the year.

Gonzaga is back in action at home this week with a pair of games at the McCarthey Center. On Thursday, the Zags take on San Francisco at 6 p.m., followed by a Saturday tilt with Santa Clara at 5 p.m. Both games will be televised on KHQ and ROOT Sports.
