Bulldogs Continue Climb Up Top 10 In AP, USA Today Polls
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's men's basketball team has its highest ranking since 2010 as the Associated Press and USA Today Top 25 polls were released Monday.
The Zags, 15-1 overall following a three-game road sweep, are ninth in the latest Associated Press poll and eighth in the USA Today balloting of coaches.
The last time the Bulldogs had a single-digit ranking in the USA Today poll was Feb. 20, 2010, when the squad was ranked ninth for a second straight week. The last time Gonzaga had a single-digit AP ranking was Dec. 23, 2008, when the sportswriters voted Gonzaga seventh.
The Bulldogs trail the University of Minnesota (14-1) by 57 points in the AP balloting and Syracuse University (14-1) by 74 points in the USA Today rankings. Duke University (14-0) remained atop both polls for the fourth straight week.
Gonzaga, which won at Oklahoma State University New Year's Eve and opened West Coast Conference play with wins at Pepperdine University and Santa Clara University last weekend, returns to action Thursday when Saint Mary's College visits for a pivotal early-season WCC matchup. Game time is 8 p.m. in the sold out McCarthey Athletic Center.
