KHQ-TV, FSN Extend Gonzaga Men's Basketball Agreement 10 Years
Jan. 9, 2009
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University athletics and IMG, the multi-media rights partner of Bulldog athletics, have announced a 10-year extension with KHQ-TV and FSN Northwest for broadcast of Gonzaga men's basketball games and other events and programming through the 2017-18 season.
The extension was jointly announced by Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth and Kris Kassel, General Manager for IMG College.
Subject to West Coast Conference and NCAA agreements, KHQ-TV and FSN will continue to carry every Gonzaga game that is not broadcast under existing or future WCC or other superseding television agreements, guaranteeing that every Gonzaga men's basketball game will be available to fans in Spokane and throughout the Pacific Northwest for the next 10 years.
"KHQ and FSN have been tremendous partners for Gonzaga over the years, and we're looking forward to continuing our partnership them well into the future," said Mike Roth, Gonzaga Director of Athletics. "The commitment that FSN and KHQ have shown the Zags over the years has contributed in no small part to the rise in popularity of our program and our university throughout the Northwest. To reach the number of homes these partners help us to reach is critically important to our program and to our fans' ability to passionately follow the Zags."
Gonzaga head basketball coach Mark Few stated, "It's increasingly important not only for our fans, but for future Zags to be able to see our games, and our television partners help make that happen. When you combine this deal with Gonzaga's strong national broadcast schedule, we certainly enjoy a television package that ranks in the top five of any college basketball program in America."
"Gonzaga's partnership with KHQ and FSN is truly special in the world of college basketball and provides unparalleled opportunity for our fan base to follow the Zags," according to Kassel. "The combined coverage of KHQ's strong over-the-air footprint with FSN Northwest's wide cable & satellite distribution provides the widest distribution available to our fan base."
"Gonzaga basketball provides KHQ with a strong local franchise that truly benefits this community. We are excited to offer Gonzaga fans a long-term commitment to broadcasting Zags basketball," according to Patricia McRae, President and General Manager for KHQ.
"The extraordinarily successful men's basketball program that Mark Few has built at Gonzaga is only a small part of why FSN Northwest is so proud to announce an extension of our agreement. It is the partnership that has been developed between FSN, the Gonzaga athletic department, KHQ and now IMG for the benefit of the Zags' loyal fan base that is the driving force behind our desire to continue showcasing Gonzaga basketball throughout the Northwest," said Mark Shuken, President and CEO of Liberty Sports Group, the parent company of FSN Northwest.
In addition to Gonzaga men's basketball, KHQ and FSN will continue to offer a selection of other Gonzaga sports programming, including select women's basketball games.
KHQ also will continue to offer its popular Best Doggone Zags Show throughout the season. FSN, KHQ and IMG also will explore additional programming options to be announced in the future.
