Dickau WCC Player Of The Week
Jan. 15, 2002
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Point guard Dan Dickau had a solid week in leading Gonzaga University to three victories, earning him West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors.
He scored eight points in overtime at the University of New Mexico, had 16 of his 29 points in the second half in the West Coast Conference opener against Santa Clara University and then keyed a second-half surge to help the Bulldogs pull away for a Sunday victory over the University of San Diego.
For the week he shot 41.5 percent from the field (17-of-41), 52.6 percent from 3-point range (10-of-19) and a deadly 96.4 percent from the free throw line (27-of-28). He went 8-for-8 from the line at UNM, 9-for-10 against SCU and 10-for-10 Sunday against USD. After missing his third attempt of the game he ran off seven straight from the line against SCU, giving him 17 straight free throws entering Friday's game at Pepperdine University. The 10-for-10 effort tied the school record for single-game percentage based on a minimum of 10 attempts. Frank Burgess (1961) and Geoff Goss (1993) both have perfect 15-for-15 games to sit atop the list.
The Bulldogs head to Los Angeles for a Friday contest at Pepperdine University and Loyola Marymount University on Saturday.
