Gonzaga Falls To No. 8 In Coaches Poll

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - The Texas Longhorns are on the rebound.

After two embarrassing back-to-back losses to top-ranked Duke and Tennessee by a combined 48 points, Texas has posted six straight wins to move back up to sixth in the latest USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll released Monday.

The most impressive one was a 58-55 victory against then-No. 3 Villanova on Saturday.

Duke (16-0) posted wins against Maryland and at Clemson to remain atop the poll. The Blue Devils picked up all 31 first-place votes and 775 points.

Florida (16-0) remains second with 739 points and Connecticut moved up to third, garnering 688 points.

Memphis (15-2) and Illinois (16-1) round out the top five.

After Texas (14-2), which also won at Big 12 Conference rival Iowa State last week and has outscored its opponents by 167 points during the winning streak, is Villanova (11-2), which dropped four spots, and Gonzaga (13-3).

Pittsburgh (14-0), one of just three remaining unbeaten teams, moved up two slots to ninth after a 61-57 victory at then-No. 10 Louisville on Sunday. Washington (14-2) moved up three spots to 10th after a triumph over UCLA on Saturday.

The Big Ten Conference occupies the next three spots with Indiana (10-3), Michigan State (14-4) and Wisconsin (14-2).

North Carolina State moves up four slots to 14th and Louisville (13-3) drops to No. 15.

UCLA (14-3) drops four spots to 16th and is followed by West Virginia (12-3), George Washington (12-1), Ohio State (12-2) and Syracuse (15-2).

Boston College (12-4), which suffered a 78-60 loss against North Carolina State on Tuesday before regrouping against Florida State, fell seven places to 21st.

Maryland (12-4), North Carolina (10-3), Oklahoma (10-4) and Iowa (13-4), which was not ranked last week, round out the top 25.

Arizona dropped out of the rankings.
