Santangelo Named WCC Men's Basketball Player of Week

Gonzaga University senior guard Matt Santangelo has ben named the West Coast Conference men's basketball Player of the Week.
Santangelo helped the Bulldogs sweep the WCC openers with a pair of impressive wins over the University of San Francisco and Santa Clara University, and in the process etched his name into the Bulldogs' record book as the career assists leader. His five assists Thursday against USF gave him 555 in his career, one better than John Stockton. Santangelo, with five more assists Saturday against the Broncos, now has 560 in his career.
In addition to becoming the all-time assists king, Santangelo poured in a season-high 26 points to help rout the Dons 96-73, going 10-for-19 from the field. He came back with 17 points in the victory over SCU.
He is the second Bulldog in as many weeks to garner the honor, Richie Frahm winning the award last week.
Gonzaga goes on the road for the first time this season in WCC action when the Bulldogs face Saint Mary's College Thursday in Moraga, then play at the University of San Diego Saturday in a 3 p.m. television matinee. The game will be shown on various FOX Sports Net outlets on the West Coast, including most Pacific Northwest FOX Sports Net affiliates.
