Men's Basketball Jumps To No. 21 In USA Today Balloting
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University’s men’s basketball team jumped three spots to No. 21 in the USA Today Top 25 released Monday, but the Bulldogs remained in the “also receiving votes” category of the Associated Press balloting.
The 16-3 Zags received 140 points to edge the University of Memphis with 134 points, those teams doing battle Feb. 8 in Memphis. Gonzaga ran its West Coast Conference record to 6-1 with a weekend sweep of Pepperdine University and Loyola Marymount University.
Gonzaga was the third team listed in the “also receiving votes” category of the AP rankings with 59 points as the Zags were kept out of the Top 25 for the second straight week after being ranked for each of the first 10 weeks.
The Bulldogs are home this week to face the University of San Diego Thursday and BYU Saturday.
The University of Arizona remained atop both polls, receiving 30 of 32 first-place votes from the coaches in the USA Today rankings and 61 of 65 first-place votes from the sportswriters in the AP balloting. Syracuse University received the remaining first-place votes in both polls to hold onto the second spot.
