Bulldogs Host Toreros Thursday To Begin Brief Homestand
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University’s men’s basketball team returns home Thursday to face the University of San Diego and former assistant coach Bill Grier in his seventh season at the helm of the Toreros.
Gametime is 7 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPNU and can be heard on the IMG Gonzaga Radio Network including flagship station 1510 KGA CBS Sports Radio in Spokane.
The Bulldogs received some good news Wednesday when guard Gary Bell Jr. was cleared to play, his broken right hand healed. He suffered the break in Gonzaga’s win over Santa Clara University Dec. 28, sidelining him the past six games. Bell was averaging 12.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.0 apg and had started all 13 games to the date the time of the injury. Kyle Dranginis has started all six games in Bell’s absence.
A pair of Bulldogs have joined Gonzaga’s 1,000-point club this season. Kevin Pangos became the 36th member of Gonzaga’s 1,000-point club with his career-high 34 points against Arkansas in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. Pangos now has 1,172 career points to tie Josh Heytvelt (2006-09) for 24th. Sam Dower Jr. became the 37th member with his career-high 28 points against Loyola Marymont this season, his 1,020 career points moving him into 36th on the Gonzaga charts.
