Gonzaga Falls Three Spots In Coaches Poll

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - Duke took advantage of losses by Kansas and Wake Forest to move up two spots to No. 2 in the latest USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll released Monday.

Duke (15-0), one of three unbeatens left in Division I, posted two road wins over Miami and Florida State. The Blue Devils got a career-high 30 points from Shelden Williams in a 92-83 victory over the Hurricanes and a career-best eight 3-pointers from J.J. Redick in an 88-56 route of the Seminoles on Saturday.

Kansas (14-1), which held the second spot for nine straight weeks, dropped five spots to No. 7 after getting romped by Villanova, 83-62, on Saturday.

Duke received 737 votes, 38 fewer than top-ranked Illinois (19-0), which survived an overtime scare against Iowa and garnered all 31 first-place votes. North Carolina (16-2) moved up three spots after wins over Clemson and Miami.

Syracuse (19-1), riding a 12-game winning streak, climbed three slots to fourth and is followed by Wake Forest (16-2), which dropped two spots after being knocked off by Florida State and beating Cincinnati.

Kentucky (14-2) moves up to sixth and Boston College (16-0) follows Kansas at No. 8. Oklahoma State (14-2), which dropped four spots to ninth after a loss to Texas, and Washington (16-2) round out the top 10.

Arizona (16-3) is No. 11 and is followed by Louisville (16-3).

Michigan State (12-3) and Texas (14-4) are tied at No. 13 and are followed by Oklahoma (15-2).

The next five is Connecticut (11-4), Alabama (15-3), Pittsburgh (13-3), which knocked off Connecticut on Saturday, Wisconsin (13-3) and Cincinnati (15-3).

Georgia Tech (11-5) is No. 21, followed by Mississippi State (16-4), Gonzaga (14-4) and Iowa (14-4). Utah (16-3), which has won 11 straight games to enter the rankings this week, round out the final five.

Marquette dropped out of the national poll for the second time this season.
