Gonzaga Drops To 17th In AP Poll

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Duke, one of three remaining unbeatens in Division I, moved up two spots to second in the latest Associated Press college basketball poll released Monday.

Still unbeaten despite playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Duke (15-0) posted road victories at Miami and Florida State last week. The Blue Devils garnered one first-place vote and 1,704 points overall.

After surviving in overtime at home against Iowa, Illinois (19-0) remained atop the rankings. The Fighting Illini picked up 71 first-place votes and 1,799 points overall.

North Carolina (16-2), which had its 14-game winning streak stopped with a loss at Wake Forest on January 15, bounced back with two double-digit wins last week and is ranked third.

Riding a 12-game winning streak, Syracuse (19-1) moved up three spots to the fourth slot. Wake Forest (16-2), which won at Cincinnati on Saturday, rounds out the top five.

Kansas (14-1), which fell from the ranks of the unbeatens with an 83-62 loss at Villanova on Saturday, dropped four spots to sixth.

Kentucky (14-2) is seventh, followed by Boston College (16-0), the nation's other unbeaten. Oklahoma State (14-2) is ninth and Washington (16-2) rounds out the first 10.

The next five are Arizona (16-3), Louisville (16-3), Oklahoma (15-2), Alabama (15-3) and Michigan State (12-3).

Texas (14-4) is 16th, followed by Gonzaga (14-4), Wisconsin (13-3), Connecticut (11-4) and Pittsburgh (13-3). Pittsburgh is a spot behind its Big East rival despite posting a 76-66 victory at Connecticut on Saturday.

The final five are Cincinnati (15-3), Georgia Tech (11-5), Iowa (14-4), Mississippi State (16-4) and Utah (16-3), which entered the rankings for the first time.

Marquette dropped out of the poll.
