Zags Open Second Half Of WCC Play Wednesday At Santa Clara

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University opens the second half of West Coast Conference play at Santa Clara University Wednesday at 8 p.m. PST.

The Bulldogs, who completed the first half of league play 8-1, have at least a two-game edge over the rest of the WCC with the exception of Saint Mary’s College (6-2). The Bulldogs play six of their nine second-half WCC games on the road after opening the campaign with 6-of-9 at home.

Wednesday’s game will be televised on SWX in Spokane and on ROOT SPORTS in the five-state region of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. The game will also air on CSN Bay Area, ROOT SPORTS Rocky Mountain and on TheW.tv out of region. Check local listings for the time and station in your area.

Gonzaga won the first meeting with Santa Clara University this season 74-60 in the West Coast Conference opener in the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Bulldogs bring a 50-30 series edge into Wednesday’s game. The Bulldogs have won six straight, 15-of-16 and 28-of-30 in the series.

The last Zag loss in the series was 85-71 at Santa Clara in 2001 to snap a nine-game Gonzaga winning streak in the series, a game which is also the only win for SCU head coach Kerry Keating in 15 tries against the Bulldogs. Gonzaga head coach Mark Few is 30-4 against the Broncos.

Gonzaga will conclude its two-game Bay Area swing Saturday with a 7 p.m. game at the University of San Francisco.
