Jan. 30, 2006

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - The top three teams remained unchanged but four teams entered the rankings in the latest USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll released Monday.

Connecticut (18-1) collected 20 first-place votes and 758 points from a panel of 31 coaches and kept the top spot for the second straight week.

Duke (19-1) picked up 751 points and 10 first-place votes.

Memphis (19-2) remained third with 711 points and the remaining first-place vote.

Michigan, Georgetown, Northern Iowa and Colorado entered at the bottom of the poll this week.

The Wolverines (15-3) extended their winning streak to four games, including home victories over ranked foes Michigan State and Wisconsin, to enter at No. 20.

The Hoyas (14-4), following the momentum of their January 22 victory over previously unbeaten Duke, won at Notre Dame and vs. Cincinnati to debut at No. 22.

The Panthers (19-3) beat Missouri Valley Conference foes Evansville and Drake to secure the 24th spot. The Buffaloes (15-3), who extended their winning streak to five games after wins over Nebraska and Kansas State, are 25th.

Back at the top, Villanova (15-2) moved up two slots to No. 4 and Gonzaga (17-3) is fifth. It's the highest ranking for Gonzaga in the poll since being ranked second in the final regular-season poll of 2004.
