SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University freshman guard Matt Bouldin has been named the West Coast Conference men's basketball player of the week for his effort in helping the Bulldogs gain sole possession of first place with a weekend sweep.
Bouldin, from Highlands Ranch, Colo., had missed 17 straight 3-pointers - including his first attempt last Saturday against the University of San Francisco - but came back to go 6-for-7 overall from the field and 4-for-5 from 3-point range in scoring 16 points against the Dons.
Monday against the University of San Diego he knocked down 7-of-8 shots from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points.
In the two games he averaged 17.0 ppg, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rpg as Gonzaga improved its overall record to 15-7 and its WCC mark to 6-1 for a one-game lead over Santa Clara University and Saint Mary's College. He went 13-for-15 from the field and 6-of-8 from 3-point range.
