Morrison Named WCC Co-Player Of Week

Jan. 31, 2006

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga junior Adam Morrison and Pepperdine senior Tashaan Forehan-Kelly share this week's West Coast Conference men's basketball Player of the Week award for leading their respective teams to crucial conference wins.

The weekly honor is the second straight and fifth career award for Morrison, and the first honor for Forehan-Kelly. It's also the fourth straight week a Gonzaga player has either won or shared the award.

Morrison scored 30 of his game-high 42 points in the first half in Gonzaga's 81-64 win over Portland last Saturday, the lone action of the weekend for the Bulldogs. The 42 points were one shy of his career-high and ranks as the third highest single-game scoring effort this season. Morrison hit the 40-point mark for the fourth time this season and second game in a row. He has also topped the 30-point mark nine times this season. Morrison chipped in five rebounds and three steals in 38 minutes of action.

Forehan-Kelly scored a career-high 35 points in the Waves' 70-62 win over rival Loyola Marymount, the second place team in the WCC. The Irvine, Calif. native connected on 10-of-17 (.588) shots from the field and 13-of-16 (.813) from the charity stripe. Forehan-Kelly's previous career-high of 23 points was set at Long Beach State earlier this season. His 35 points were also the most points by a Waves' player since Brandon Armstrong poured in 40 against Loyola Marymount in 2001. Forehan-Kelly also added four rebounds and three steals in the win.

Morrison and the Zags remain at home as they host the Santa Clara Broncos at 5 p.m. Saturday in a game televised on KHQ-TV and FSN Northwest, followed by a 9 p.m. visit Monday from Saint Mary's in an ESPN2 Big Monday telecast.
