Feb 2, 2004

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University moved up two more spots to eighth in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 men's basketball polls released Monday.

Gonzaga, 17-2 overall and 7-0 at the halfway point of the West Coast Conference race, was 10th in both polls last week. Gonzaga swept the University of San Diego and Santa Clara University on the road last week to run its current winning streak to 10 games. Gonzaga is home this week to face Pepperdine University and Loyola Marymount University in front of a sold out Kennel.

With several upsets dotting the Top 10 last week, Gonzaga received 1,330 points in this week's AP balloting of sportswriters as previous No. 5 University of Kentucky fell to ninth, last week's No. 8 University of Cincinnati fell to 10th and previous No. 9 University of Arizona dropped to No. 12. The Bulldogs trail No. 7 Mississippi State University by 20 points, the MSU version of the Bulldogs jumping into the Top 10 after being 11th last week.

In the USA Today/ESPN poll of coaches, Gonzaga received 565 points to trail No. 7 MSU by 8 points and lead No. 9 Kentucky by 47 points.

Duke University held onto the top spot in both polls, while Stanford University remained second and Saint Joseph's University third in both polls. Stanford and Saint Joe's are the only teams to defeat the Bulldogs this season.
