Gonzaga-Tulsa To Tip Off In Bracket Buster II

Feb. 2, 2004

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University and the University of Tulsa will play Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. PST on ESPN2 in Bracket Buster II as the pairings and times were announced Monday.

The Gonzaga-Tulsa matchup, as was the case last year, was the only pre-determined matchup in the showcase event designed to give teams a quality, late-season game to help boost the RPI and earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Gonzaga defeated Tulsa last year in The Kennel, with this year's game slated for the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Okla.

The Bulldogs are 17-2 this season and 7-0 at the halfway point of the West Coast Conference schedule, with Tulsa 7-11 overall and 3-6 in the Western Athletic Conference. Gonzaga, ranked 8th with its only two losses thus far to the only two remaining undefeateds - Stanford University and Saint Joseph's University - would seem to be assured an at-large bid should the Bulldogs stumble in the WCC Tournament.

"Tulsa will be an extremely difficult place to play," Gonzaga head coach Mark Few said. "They were all we could handle last year (a 69-60 GU win) and will be even tougher at home. It's a big game for us for a lot of reasons."

The other Bracket Buster II pairings and game times are (all times PST):

Manhattan at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 11 a.m., ESPN2
