Gonzaga Sweeps WCC Player of the Month Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University swept the West Coast Conference basketball Player of the Month honors for January as sophomore guard Courtney Vandersloot carted off the women's award and junior guard Matt Bouldin was the men's recipient.
Bouldin averaged 16.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 3.9 apg and had a 2.4 assist/turnover ratio as Gonzaga went 8-0 for month, including a 7-0 WCC start. He shot 52.5 percent from the field (42-for-80) and 44.1 percent from 3-point range (15-for-34). The native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., matched his career high with 26 points in an 89-79 overtime win at Tennessee, going 11-for-20 from the field as Gonzaga snapped Tennessee's 37-game home winning streak which was the longest in the nation at the time. The Bulldogs defeated the Vols for the second time this season. Tennessee was ranked 15th by Associated Press and 25th by USA Today/ESPN in the second meeting. He set a career high with 10 assists and had his first career points-assists double-double with 14 points at Pepperdine. Last Thursday he had 17 points and 4 rebounds in a 69-62 win over Saint Mary's in a showdown of WCC undefeated teams.
Vandersloot averaged 14.4 ppg, 7.8 apg, 3.5 rpg, 2.1 spg and had a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio for the Bulldogs, who like the men, went 8-0 for the month, including a 7-0 mark in conference. The Kent, Wash., native shot 47.6 percent from the floor (40-for-84) and hit 92.9 percent from the charity stripe (26-for-28). The Zag point guard dished out eight or more assists in five of the eight contests, including two double-digit assists outings. Vandersloot scored 15 points, passed out 10 assists and did not turn the ball over once in Gonzaga's 63-42 win at the University of San Francisco to register her fifth career double-double. She closed out the month scoring nine points and dishing out 11 assists in the Bulldogs impressive 109-73 victory over the University of San Diego in a rematch of last year's WCC Tournament title game.
