Stepp Named WCC Player Of The Month

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University senior Blake Stepp has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for January.

He is the second Bulldog to capture the monthly award this season, Ronny Turiaf earning the honor for December.

Stepp helped the Bulldogs to an 8-0 record and 7-0 WCC start for the month. The Eugene, Ore., native averaged 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game for the month in leading Gonzaga to a No. 8 national ranking as the Bulldogs increased their winning streak to 10 games.

Stepp, last year's WCC Player of the Year, went 43-for-85 from the field (50.6 percent), 24-for-54 from 3-point range (44.4 percent) and 27-for-29 from the line (93.1 percent) for the month. He scored in double digits in all eight games and had five or more assists in seven of the eight games. While handing out seven assists per contest, Stepp only turned over the ball 2.8 times per game, for an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.55. Stepp moved into 9th on the Gonzaga career scoring chart with 1,498 points and overtook John Stockton for second on the career assists list with 571. The sharpshooter also moved into second on the career 3-point list with 259.
