ESPN College GameDay Has Nationally Ranked Zags, Memphis

            MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Gonzaga, ranked 23rd by Associated Press and 20th by USA Today, faces its first Top 25 foe of the season Saturday when the Bulldogs face Memphis, ranked 24th by AP, at FedExForum in the City of Jazz and Blues.

            Saturday’s game will be televised on ESPN as part of ESPN’s College GameDay Covered by State Farm. Rece Davis, Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps and Jalen Rose will host College GameDay at 7 a.m. PST on ESPNU and continuing at 8 a.m. PST on ESPN. Dan Shulman, Dick Vitale and Shannon Spake will cover the game beginning at 6 p.m. PST on ESPN.

            Memphis holds a 5-2 edge in the series with Gonzaga after the Bulldogs snapped a 4-game losing streak with a 66-58 victory in Memphis in 2010. Memphis won 62-58 in 2011 in a game played in the Spokane Arena. Gonzaga won the inaugural meeting in the series, taking a Pre-Season NIT contest at the old Pyramid in Memphis 88-73 Nov. 16, 1999. The Tigers won two at home and two in the Spokane Arena to put together the 4-game winning streak. The teams met Feb. 7, 2009, in the Spokane Arena for ESPN College Game Day, the Tigers taking a 68-50 victory.

            Saturday will be the second ESPN College GameDay meeting between Gonzaga and Memphis, the teams meting Feb. 7, 2009, in the Spokane Arena for ESPN College GameDay. Memphis won that contest 68-50. Gonzaga was ranked 18th in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls in that 2009 meeting while the Tigers came in 14th in AP and 15th in ESPN/USA Today.
