MBB 2017 Season Honored by Seattle Sports Commission

SEATTLE — The Gonzaga men’s basketball team’s run to the 2017 NCAA title game was chosen as the Sports Story of The Year at the Seattle Sports Commission’s 83rd Annual MTRWestern Sports Star of the Year banquet on Thursday night.
The 2017 Zags set a school record with a 37 wins and just two losses on the way to a berth in the national championship game after making the school’s first-ever Final Four. GU defeated South Carolina in the National Semifinal to set up the final against North Carolina.

Now in its 83rd year, the event has honored Seattle’s most inspiring and iconic sports individuals, legends, media and philanthropists. Honorees are selected by the Sports Star Committee, compiled of local sports historians, media and other members of the sports industry. Acknowledging the tremendous accomplishments of the honorees and nominees is an essential component of showcasing the triumphs of Washington sports over the years.
