Bulldogs Ranked 7th In Both Polls

Feb 9, 2004

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University moved up one more notch to seventh in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 men's basketball polls.

The Bulldogs ran their winning streak to 12, their overall record to 19-2 and their West Coast Conference mark to 9-0 with last week's home sweep of Pepperdine University and Loyola Marymount University.

This is the highest the Bulldogs have been ranked since finishing the 2002 regular-season ranked sixth by AP. Gonzaga was also sixth in the final regular-season balloting by USA Today/ESPN that season but finished 16th in the final poll following the NCAA Tournament. AP does not conduct a poll following the tourney.

Duke University, Stanford University, Saint Joseph's University, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Connecticut held onto the top five spots, respectively, in the poll. Stanford and Saint Joseph's remain the only two undefeated teams at 20-0 and the only two teams to have defeated Gonzaga this season.

Gonzaga will be in the Bay Area this week for a Thursday game at the University of San Francisco and a Saturday contest at Saint Mary's College.
