Seniors, Bulldogs Bid To Put Wraps On Perfect Home Season

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University plays its final home game of the season Saturday when Loyola Marymount visits.

Gonzaga is bidding for a perfect 15-0 home season Saturday. It would be the 10th perfect home season in Gonzaga’s NCAA Division I history which began in 1958-59. The last unblemished home season was 2006 when the Zags went 16-0. The first time the Bulldogs were perfect at home was 1965 at 10-0 when all home games were played in the downtown Spokane Coliseum.

The Bulldogs are hopeful of clinching no worse than a tie for the West Coast Conference title, but will need a victory and some help to do so. With Pacific’s win over BYU Thursday the Cougars fell four games behind Gonzaga in the loss column. Saint Mary’s remained three games in back of the Zags with its win over San Diego. A BYU win over SMC Saturday and a Bulldog victory would give Gonzaga at least a four-game edge over the field with four games to play to clinch at least a tie.

Four seniors will bid good-bye to the McCarthey Athletic Center Saturday – Drew Barham (Memphis, Tenn.), Brian Bhaskar (Monterey, Calif.) Sam Dower Jr. (Minneapolis, Minn.) and David Stockton (Spokane, Wash.). In addition senior managers Brendan Sabean (Belmont, Calif.) and Jade Klette (Great Falls, Mont.) will be at home for the final time.

Gonzaga has won 27 straight West Coast Conference home games dating back to Jan. 27, 2011, when Saint Mary’s won 73-71.
